Twenty-Two

I was fortunate enough to have my birthday happen while I was in Florida, and I received some pretty awesome art pieces from other residents. While the big incredible present I'll wait to post until I'm around a larger scanner, here's a picture by my friend Mojgon Vatanchi.  It's of the character White from the incredible manga Black & White by Taiyo Matsumoto.  Incredibly, she colored this not on the computer, but with MARKERS.   Can you believe how clean they look?

Damn that is a rad birthday present. Did she use copics or sumpin' else?

She did. Yet she somehow got it to look like a single solid color.

I think it had something to do with the direction she inked in. When she showed me how she was doing the colors, she colored in little circular motions rather than in lines and individual marks.

I tend to color digitally these days, but before then, I used markers, and I was always impressed by how smooth the color laid down.

Even with that in mind, though, the color on this piece is incredible! The shadows on the skin in particular read so smoothly, and there's absolutely no bleeding to speak of.

Talk about a cool present.
